The HOW Design Conference is the annual creativity, business and technology conference for graphic designers. The construction of the HOW Conference site hinges around the online registration system. The system is designed to interface to several off-site systems that are used to administer the event. Users are able to choose between several different types of registrations as well as choose their preferred events and signup for optional tours, workshops and lunches. The site was programmed with Classic ASP and interfaces with several different SQL Server databases. Additionally, it produces XML-based messages which are relayed to an external web service. I created both the 2004 and 2005 site, each of which handled more than 2,000 registrations and produced more than $1,000,000 in gross revenue. |

Memory Makers features the ideas and stories of readers around the world. They are committed to providing ideas and inspiration for the worldwide community of scrapbookers. The magazine is widely available in bookstores and individual stamp, art, photo, fabric, scrapbook and craft stores. The site was designed to promote book sales, back issue and special issue sales, newsletter signups and subscriptions. To that end, it contains an online store which handles all e-commerce on the site. The site also includes a CMS, a forum and an image upload feature where a visitor to the web site can upload scanned images of their work to be considered for inclusion in a future issue. The Memory Makers web site was programmed using ASP.NET with C# and interfaces with a SQL Server database which I designed. |

Founded in 1985, HOW Magazine provides graphic-design professionals with essential business information, features cutting-edge technological advances, profiles renowned and up-and-coming designers, details noteworthy projects, and provides creative inspiration. The HOWdesign.com site is designed to provide a large repository of graphic design information as well as to promote products sales and newsletter signups. I created the online store which handles all book, back issue and special issue sales on the site. Additionally, I created an online forum system which drives the majority of the traffic to the site. This is not an off-the-shelf solution; it is a custom-coded application. The site also includes an extensive administrative area which allows the editorial staff of the magazine to be responsible for almost every aspect of the content of their site. The HOW site was programmed using Classic ASP. |
